| RECYCLE for EDUCATION The West Ridge Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce an additional way to recycle in our neighborhood!
365 days per year, 24 hours per day you can simply drop off you paper items to be recycled at 2 Paper Retriever Boxes in the nieghborhood.
Devon Bank - Easily accessible in the southeast corner of the lot at 6445 N. Western Avenue.
High Ridge YMCA - Accessible to all through the YMCA lot 2424 W. Touhy. entrance on Western Avenue.
We can accept your newspapers, school & business documents, junk mail, catalogs, soft cover books & magazines.
Did you know that 1 week of daily newspapers can add up to 10 lbs of paper? The West Ridge Chamber of Commerce is committed to community education. Our local RECYCLING program is in place not only to help the earth, but to assist community schools. In the 2007-08 school year the Chamber raised $2,000 through these programs. Funds provided financial assistance to Boone Community School. The entire 4th grade class and 5 teachers were able to attend a science field trip at Experiencia at no cost to them. On the trip, students had a chance to experience hands on learning of subjects like recycling, composting and water conservation and collection. Help us generate funds to do it again! Events at the Northtown Library
Family Winter Reading Program: Cuddle Up and Read! December 1, 2008-January 2, 2009 The Chicago Public Library, Northtown Branch will be conducting a Family Winter Reading Program for the month of December to encourage children and families to cuddle up together and read! Children up to age 18 are eligible to participate in this program. Our goal is for every family with children at the Northtown Branch to read for 25 hours during the month of December. Every child who reads for at least 25 hours during the program will win a prize book of their choice! Other prizes throughout the program will include stickers, stamps and a log to keep track of the hours spent reading. Come sign up at the branch starting December 1st!
Family Reading on a Winter's Night! Thursday, 12/11/08 at 7:00 PM Take part in the Northtown Branch's Family Winter Reading Program, Cuddle Up and Read! Join us as we welcome Gwen Hilary and Enoch Williamson back to the branch. Gwen and Enoch create an energetic fusion of music and the spoken word to engage the audience and get them "into" the stories. This program is designed for children of all ages and their families. Advance registration is recommended but not required. |
Veteran's attend commemorative ceremony for the newly restored "The Spirit of the Fighting Yank" monument at Republic Bank.
Dedicated in 1958, "The Spirit of the Fighting Yank" monument has stood on the corner outside the Republic Bank building at 2720 West Devon Avenue, Chicago, IL. The monument, depicting a determined-looking GI carrying a Thompson sub-machine gun by his left side and a grenade in his right hand, was in need of restoration and repair. On September 12, 2008, Republic Bank undertook the initiative of professional restoration for this life-size monument produced by sculptor E. M. Viqeusney.
In honor of Veteran's Day and all those that have served, and are currently serving, our great nation, Republic Bank hosted a ceremony welcoming "The Spirit of the Fighting Yank" back to its home. This commemorative ceremony took place on Monday, November 10, 2008 at 10:30am at Republic Bank's Devon Avenue location. Members from local VFW posts, as well as Illinois' State Junior Vice Commander were present to take part in this tribute to our American heroes.
Republic Bank's Executive Vice President, Susan Fisher stated, "This monument has been a cornerstone of the community. With our long history servicing the West Ridge area, it seemed appropriate that we take this opportunity to restore it to its proper form. We feel it is our responsibility to maintain this sculpture, both as artwork and for what it represents." |

Chicago Shakespeare Theater's (CST) international programming initiative, the World's Stage Series, brings Tim Supple's bold, breakthrough adaptation of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream to Chicago following critically acclaimed, sold-out performances across India, the UK, Australia and North America. The show's diverse cast, composed of artists from across India and Sri Lanka, will perform in Chicago Shakespeare's Courtyard Theater for 16 performances only, November 25 through December 7, 2008.
