Summer Opportunities for Organizations through Youth Ready Chicago
Youth Ready Chicago provides learning and work opportunities for thousands of young
Chicagoans ages 14-24. Youth are exposed to a variety of positive, structured work-based
learning environments that connect their educational development to tangible workplace
skills. Through partnerships with City of Chicago agencies youth have the opportunity
to work at community based organizations, private-sector businesses, churches, park
facilities and many more.
Youth Ready Chicago is continuing our regular Corporate Jobs Initiative. This program
prescreens hundreds of youth applicants based on an organization's needs, then submits
a small pool of pre-interviewed youth to the participating organization for hiring
consideration. Corporations participating in this initiative are asked to take on
the full cost of hiring an employee at minimum wage or above. In exchange for this
commitment businesses receive publicity through YRC and increased community visibility,
as well as ongoing support and monitoring of their hire(s) by a specially-assigned
Job Developer.
Additionally, for the summer of 2009 we are offering an exciting opportunity for
businesses and organizations to serve as a work site. By becoming a work site
organizations will have the opportunity to access talented young people that are
willing and ready to work, all at no cost to the organization. This program is
available through the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA). All youth applicants
should be eligible under WIA guidelines.
Interested organizations can visit www.youthreadychicago.org/employers/work_sites.html
