Tumeric: The Wonderful Spice that Fights Inflammation and Protects Against Disease

Date:
May 29 2014

Description:
Join author Colleen Sen for an evening that will explore the many health benefits of this "wonder spice". Turmeric has long played an important role in Indian, Chinese, and Indonesian medicine. Turmeric's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties have been known for centuries, accounting for its historic use as a panacea for sprains, congestion, skin ailments, and digestive problems. Over the last few decades, medical researchers have begun to notice a lower rate of certain cancers, as well as Alzheimer's disease, in countries whose inhabitants regularly consume turmeric-rich dishes. Accordingly, nearly
80 clinical trials have been put on or are currently being conducted to study turmeric's effects on health. To date, these studies have found evidence for turmeric's therapeutic
advantages as related to preventing or treating Alzheimer's disease, arthritis, atherosclerosis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, digestive problems, liver
disease, stroke, and infections.
Sen is an experienced food writer with a wealth of experience writing about Eastern food traditions.

A traditional Indian meal filled with turmeric will be served. (veg and non veg options) The meal will include a choice of beverage including tea, soft drinks, lassi's, beer and wine.

Patrons will also receive a discount code to purchase Sen's new E-Book: TURMERIC: Great Recipes Featuring the Wonder Spice that Fights Inflammation and Protects Against Disease. The book includes more than 70 recipes from around the globe.
